Report: ECPE Network Meeting 2025

About every second year, ECPE organises a network meeting for all network members. This year, it took place online. 81 participants from 23 network companies and 22 competence centres used the opportunity to meet virtually and discuss the topic of Sustainability and Eco-design Activities Within the ECPE Network.

In various presentations, we highlighted expert-discussions and workshops organised in the last three years. Various projects financed by the ECPE Joint Research fund were introduced and showed the bandwidth of topics covered, from identifying data gaps for proper Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to research activities on more sustainable materials for power electronics packaging.

Furthermore, Jonas Huber gave an update on the status of the study Environmentally Compatible Power Electronics, financed by the ECPE e.V. This study will be made available to all ECPE e.V. member companies after it has been finished in May 2026. The researchers at ETH Zürich investigate how LCA analyses can be included into the design process and how to evaluate the trade-off in resource usage and environmental compatibility when designing for repairability versus high integration to save material and increase performance.

The question, which action ECPE should take in the context of driving the topics sustainability and eco-design within the network, was mainly answered by the wish for education and training as the next steps. This view is also supported by the summary of the survey Circularity in Power Electronics presented during the meeting.
